Links below should provide useful starting points for family and friends who are planning to visit us.
Some basics; nearly all Swedes know English well, its not that expensive unless you have a penchant for hard liquor, public transport is good, driving is slow and relaxed, UK mobiles and credit cards work here, the weather can be nice, the city and surrounding area have a lot to offer - and of course we'd love to see you.
You can start with some background on Sweden, the official Swedish travel site and of course the Lonely Planet Sweden Guide.
As you know we live in Göteborg/Gothenberg which has a number of English language web sites including the visitors guide and an official city site. It is situated in the Bohuslän area of West Sweden characterised by a picturesque granite coast. We live in Näset (pronounced nair-set), a peninsula about 15 min south of the city. We have rocky bays, views of the archipelago, small harbours and swimming beaches all only a short walk from the house.
The cheapest way to get here is of course Ryan Air, you can also try FlyMe and possibly EasyJet via Copenhagen. SAS and BA also come here but cost more. We have two airports Säve, also known as Gothenburg City Airport, where Ryan Air are based, and Göteborg-Landvetter for the others. Both are about 30-40 minutes away. We may be able to pick you up but there are taxis of course. We have never hired cars from these airports but web booking from UK should work and we can give you map links and/or directions to get to us.
You might consider coming out the slow way with DFDS Seaways from Newcastle and/or extending you trip to include, for example, Copenhagen from the south or Stockholm to the north, both of which have good connections to Göteborg by air, sea and road.
